Thor Jørgensen won 5 million dollars in the California lottery Friday morning, after buying a ticket at the Sunshine Store on the UCSD campus. The 37-year-old Danish man learned he had won the prize when California lottery commissioner Della Van Della called him.
Jørgensen plans to use his money to improve his bee patch and to donate to animal protection charities. When asked if any of the money was going to be given to his family, he responded that because his parents left him in the forest as a child, he feels they do not deserve to receive any of the money.
His early life living in the forest gave him a deep love and connection with animals. Because he does not get much other human interaction, Jørgensen enjoys being around the people of San Diego. Jørgensen’s dream is to visit the San Diego zoo before he has to go back to Denmark.
