Kirsten Yocke

Seventeen-year-old senior Kirsten Yocke imagines living in a South American rainforest, sitting with a local tribe and documenting their lives with photos and stories. She dreams about immersing herself in a culture away from the conveniences of the modern world, “killing your own lion” as she puts it. A high school photo class sparked her interest in photojournalism. “We went on a field trip to a homeless shelter and were told to interview one of the people there. I ended up interviewing like ten” she says with a laugh.

Kirsten was born in Greenbrae, California just North of San Francisco. Though she now lives in Novato (still only about 15 minutes from Greenbrae) she attends Marine Catholic Private School, located right across the street from the very hospital she was born in. When asked about her faith and growing up Presbyterian, she replied “ I am not meant to be catholic, I can’t blindly give away my faith”. At first going to a catholic school seemed odd and Kirsten didn’t want to go, but she found a great group of friends. Such as Pierre, a 5’11 250lbs.
