Nicolas Galarreta

For Nicolas Galarreta baseball is more than simply exercise. The seventeen-year-old second baseman, who has played since he was six years old, approaches life the way he approaches his favorite sport. “On a team,” he explains, “no one can afford to be selfish.” Although he cares about his team at San Diego High School, another team is first in his heart. The most important team is his home team, his family.
Galarreta has six siblings, and currently lives with three of them; two younger sisters and a younger brother. He often helps his parents out by babysitting, picking his siblings up from school, and cooking them dinner. He aspires to be a positive role model for them to look up to, especially as Galarreta’s time at home is coming to an end.
Like most high school seniors, Galarreta is thinking about college. While he loves living in San Diego, Galarreta is ready to move somewhere new. While he is keeping his options open about which university or city that may be, it must be close enough to San Diego so he can visit often. He hopes not to stray far from baseball either in the future. After college, he is interested in combining his passion for baseball with another of his passions, writing, and pursuing a career in sports journalism.
