In the San Diego forest, Isabel Herrera heard the sound of crickets during her first night camping. Reality set in as she felt the adrenalin rush through her while taking in the refreshing outdoor scent. Automatic comfort and relaxation created a strong bond between Isabel and the outdoors. Isabel remembered a hike earlier with her friends from the Boys and Girls Club surrounded by tall trees and grass making her mind at ease. At home, she would have felt lonely but in the forest she felt like she belonged. Isabella had found her passion of the outdoors.
Isabel Herrera was used to uneventful summers spent with her sister in her home with the occasional visit from family. At the age of 10, she wanted change and asked her mom to sign her up at the local Boys and Girls Club. She was excited when her mom told her about a camping trip packing everything in sight. A few days earlier, nerves filled her body thinking about a new environment so different than home. She arrived at the camp and was changed by the outdoors, finding her passion. She felt connected with nature loving the openness so different than her home in the city.
